Sophie Louise Koffler is a self-taught jewelry designer. Color, the most important element of her designs, has led her to work with beads and minerals. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics she took up beading, a favorite pastime of her childhood. Sophie’s initial interest in jewelry design was sparked while looking at beading magazines, enthralled by the infinite possibilities enabled through the combination of bead weaving techniques. In 2008, determined to learn the art of off-loom bead weaving she signed up for a continuing education course at the Rhode Island School of Design where she learned the basics. In 2015 Sophie took a break from jewelry making to return to school and was awarded a Master’s in Computer Science in 2018. Newly graduated, Sophie now returns to the world of beads.
